Festival del Habano XXVI was cancelled on July 20, 2026, and no 2027 date was set. On September 4, the distributor for Germany, Austria and Poland stopped shipping. It filed for insolvency in September. The day of that filing is disputed, so this page does not pick one.

Spain and Germany

Spain’s Tabacalera told staff its bank accounts were frozen. Cigars-connect reported that on September 12.

5th Avenue told retailers on September 4 that it could not take orders or ship. Germany was Habanos’ fifth-largest market. halfwheel published the letter. halfwheel dates the insolvency filing September 10. A German trade site dates the petition September 8. This page says September and stops.

A US reader cannot import these cigars. The break still explains the fakes offered abroad, and why Cohiba and Romeo y Julieta searches land on brand pages with almost no clicks.

What still launched

The launches moved to ticketed events outside Cuba.

  • Cohiba Talismán’s worldwide launch is October 7 in London. Tickets are £600 plus VAT. London Cigar Smoker reported the price. The gift box of three is limited to 6,500 boxes.
  • Quai d’Orsay Concordia, an Edición Limitada, launches October 24 in Madrid. halfwheel announced it on August 11. No retail price was in that report.

  • El Rey del Mundo Tico, a Costa Rica regional edition, went on sale September 28 at $980 for a box of 15. halfwheel stated that dollar price.
  • Montecristo Fragata, a duty-free exclusive, was shown in late September. A Habanos spokesperson told halfwheel to expect about $1,300 per box of 20. That is an expected retail, not a US shelf price.

The 2026 Habanos list, set in January, averaged a 3.83% increase. halfwheel’s list story is the source. Phoenicia’s 6.5% freight surcharge, added June 23, was still in place. halfwheel described it as temporary.

What you can buy instead

Our catalog has 361 Cuban records. 310 are priced in pounds. 11 are priced in dollars. Forty have no currency. A Cuban median in dollars would be 11 cigars, and several of those figures are UK prices stored as dollars. This page does not chart them.

The legal substitutes are the non-Cuban cigars already ranked against that demand. The chart and the picker below are the same tools as on Cuban vs non-Cuban cigars. The longer background is the history of Cuban cigars.

Exports were already thin before July. Cuba shipped 50 million cigars in 2024, against 93.9 million in 2018. Al Jazeera reported those figures on April 15, 2026. The summer’s news is that the distribution companies, not only the factories, stopped moving boxes.

Why are Cuban cigars scarce in 2026?

The festival is cancelled, the German distributor stopped shipping on September 4, and Spain’s co-owner is paying bills only with Treasury clearance. Factories were already exporting about half of the 2018 volume. The new constraint is the ownership chain, not a missing vitola.

Can I buy Cuban cigars in the United States?

No. The embargo still blocks commercial import. Scarcity abroad does not create a legal US shelf. If a seller offers a Cuban box inside the US, treat it as a fake until you can prove otherwise. The rated alternatives are on the picker above.

What did the 2026 Cuban launches cost?

Quote the currency with the price. Talismán tickets are £600 plus VAT. Tico is $980 for 15 cigars in Costa Rica. Fragata is an expected $1,300 for 20, in duty-free, and halfwheel’s source called that figure an expectation. Concordia’s retail price was not published in the August announcement.
