San Francisco's Cigar Scene
San Francisco proper has a small cigar scene because smoking rules are tight. The Occidental Cigar Club is the main legal indoor cigar bar in the city, while Cigar Bar & Grill remains the other useful SF cigar-and-drink venue with a patio and full restaurant.
For deeper retail selection or quieter lounge time, the better answer is often to look just outside the city: Telford's in Mill Valley, La Bodeguita's Cigar Divan in Palo Alto, and Cigar Loft in San Mateo. Skip generic nightlife filler and focus on venues with clear cigar retail, patio, or lounge access.

Cigar Lounges (5)
These establishments feature dedicated smoking lounges where you can relax and enjoy your cigars in comfortable, well-ventilated spaces.
The Occidental Cigar Club
San Francisco's main legal indoor cigar bar, open to the public with no reservation requirement, premium cigars, spirits, beer, wine, and late hours.
Cigar Bar & Grill
Jackson Square restaurant, bar, and cigar venue with Latin American food, cocktails, live music, and an open-air garden patio for cigar smoking.

Telford's Pipe & Cigar
North Bay tobacconist with cigars, pipes, accessories, regular events, and an open lounge. It is outside San Francisco but one of the most reliable Bay Area cigar stops.
La Bodeguita del Medio
Cuban restaurant with a licensed retail tobacco shop and separate Cigar Divan smoking lounge. Guests order drinks from the front bar and return glassware when finished because staff cannot serve inside the smoking room.
Cigar Loft
Peninsula cigar shop and lounge with premium and moderately priced cigars, leather seating, and regular-friendly service. A useful Bay Area backup when SF proper is too limited; call ahead before driving.
Cigar Shops (1)
Excellent cigar selections without dedicated lounges. Perfect for picking up premium cigars to enjoy elsewhere.
The Humidor
Family-owned Embarcadero Center tobacco shop established in 1996, with premium cigar brands including Davidoff, Cohiba, Padron, and rare Fuente selections. Treat it as a retail stop, not a lounge.
San Francisco Cigar Tips
Best Times to Visit
Occidental is the most reliable late-night indoor cigar option in San Francisco. Retail-first shops such as The Humidor and Telford's keep earlier hours, so check before crossing the bridge or heading downtown.
Neighborhoods to Explore
Financial District/Jackson Square has the main in-city cigar bars. Embarcadero is best for retail cigars. Mill Valley, San Mateo, and Palo Alto add stronger Bay Area lounge choices.
Smoking Rules
Do not assume a cocktail bar, speakeasy, or cafe allows cigars because it has cigar history or outdoor seating. Use dedicated cigar venues and verify patio or indoor smoking policies before you go.
